In order for swim data to appear on a leaderboard, the following conditions must be met:
1) Your swim data is publicly visible to other users
2) Private profile settings are NOT enabled
3) Your swim has not had its data edited
4) You have enabled leaderboards in your account settings
5) For facility and club specific leaderboards, your swim must be assigned to the pool (facility) or you have joined the club of the leaderboard you are viewing.
Leaderboards are scrollable, and will continue to load more information the further you scroll down. The information bar at the top that shows your position on a particular leaderboard is selectable, and touching your position will take you to your spot on the leaderboard so you don't have to scroll to your position. The information bar will also show the total number of swimmers, total distance swam, and your total distance. This information will change as you apply filters to the leaderboard.
There are three different types of pool (lap swim - defined course length) leaderboards: Global, Facility (pool), and Club. Additionally, each type of leaderboard is broken down into two segments, distance and fastest.
The filters can be used to access facility and club specific leaderboards - though they can also be viewed from the facility's/club's profile page.
The Global distance leaderboard, pictured below, simply ranks swimmers based on the total distance swam across all eligible swim data.
The Global 50y fastest leaderboard for a 25y course length, pictured below, is a ranking of the fastest times swam. Entries are ranked from fastest to slowest based on any interval of continuous swimming that is equal to or greater than the distance specified.
Both distance and fastest leaderboards can also be further filtered by age group, sex, swimmer type, and a specified date range. Filters on leaderboards are "sticky", meaning they will remain set even if you navigate away from the Swim.com app.
The fastest leaderboards can be filtered to show fastest times swam for continuous distances of 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 in standard course lengths (25y/m or 50m). If you are swimming in a non-standard course length, you can also indicate this using the filters and the continuous distances available for fastest time leaderboards will be multiples that apply to your custom course length.
OPEN WATER SWIMS
In July 2020, we added support for open water swim leaderboards to the Swim.com mobile app. Similar to lap swim leaderboards, there are two segments of open water swim leaderboards: Distance and Fastest times. The results in each segment can be filtered by age group, sex, swimmer type, and in specific date ranges. Results can be filtered into Global results or by clubs created on Swim.com. There are no leaderboards available for specific bodies of water.
Fastest times leaderboards for open water swims can be filtered into the following distances: 400m, 750m, 1km, 1.5km, 3km, 5km, 10km, 25km, 1 mile, 1.2 miles, 2.4 miles, (and in the future - 10 miles).
Please note that fastest times leaderboards for open water swims are more affected by environmental factors than a lap swim might be. These environmental factors can include wind, current, water temperature, use of a wetsuit, water salinity, etc. and these variables can produce faster or slower than expected times of completion for a specified distance.
A note about suspicious swim data (impossible times, falsified data, etc): We rely on the community to help us flag suspicious swims. Sometimes, this just happens accidentally - like forgetting to disable GPS to/from an open water swim or if something goes wrong with the algorithms while recording the data in a lap swim. We are working on adding the ability to flag swims to the Swim.com mobile app but in the meantime, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so the team can review the data and flag/remove swim data from a leaderboard as needed.
